Role and Involvement of Precepting during Residency | 29 hours
Topeka Pharmacy takes student pharmacists from Butler University, Manchester University, and Purdue University who are completing their final year in pharmacy school, or fourth professional year. The goal for these students is to develop and practice skills they will use once they have graduated and become licensed pharmacists. At Topeka Pharmacy, students experience multiple aspects of community pharmacy such as dispensing, counseling patients on over-the-counter medications, Medication Therapy Management (MTM) services, and administrative/managerial responsibilities of running an independent pharmacy. As the community pharmacy practice resident, part of my responsibilities included precepting these students at least one day per week in either matters related to dispensing, counseling patients, and MTM services. Other responsibilities included having topic discussions and performing one journal club. The following materials and schedule summarizes my precepting experience.
